We're based in Bangalore. We've been helping international companies hire here since 2015. So when we tell you this city is worth understanding properly before you start hiring, it comes from watching what works and what doesn't for companies coming from the US, UK, Singapore, and Australia.
Here's what you actually need to know.
Why Bangalore and Not Hyderabad, Pune, or Chennai?
India has multiple strong technology cities. Hyderabad has excellent talent and lower costs. Pune has a strong engineering culture. Chennai has a reliable, experienced workforce. All of them are good choices for certain types of companies.
But Bangalore has something the others don't — the highest concentration of product-focused engineers who have worked in or alongside global technology companies. If your team needs engineers who understand product thinking, agile development, modern DevOps, and the pace of a well-funded startup, Bangalore is where you find them in the greatest density.
Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Zepto, Razorpay, PhonePe — the list of major technology companies based here is long. That creates an ecosystem where engineering talent is continuously exposed to world-class standards. When you hire from this pool, you're getting people who have worked in demanding, high-growth environments.
The trade-off is cost. Bangalore commands the highest salaries in India. But even at those higher rates, the cost differential versus hiring in the US or UK is enormous.

These are market rates for experienced professionals. Add 15-20% for employer-side statutory contributions (PF, professional tax, gratuity provisions) to get total cost of employment.
The Talent Pool: What's Available and What's Competitive
Bangalore's job market is competitive. Good engineers — especially those with 4 to 8 years of experience in backend development, cloud infrastructure, data engineering, or mobile — typically receive multiple offers and move quickly. If your interview process takes 3 to 4 weeks, you will lose candidates.
The roles where supply is strong and hiring is relatively straightforward: QA engineers, frontend developers with standard React or Angular skills, operations and support roles, HR, and finance professionals. These hires typically close in 2 to 3 weeks.
The roles where you need to move fast and pay competitively: senior backend engineers, ML engineers, DevOps architects, and product managers with startup experience. These candidates have options and they know it.
One thing that consistently helps international companies attract good talent in Bangalore: the prestige and the culture. Working for a US or UK company, getting exposure to global product standards, and earning a slightly above-market salary with remote flexibility is genuinely appealing to the best candidates here. That's your hiring pitch — use it.
How Foreign Companies Actually Hire in Bangalore
You have three realistic options when hiring in Bangalore from outside India.
Set up a legal entity — register a Private Limited company in India, open a bank account, register for GST, PF, ESI, and TDS, and hire directly. This takes 4 to 6 months, costs ₹3 to 6 lakhs in setup fees, and requires ongoing compliance management. It makes sense if you're hiring more than 25 to 30 people and you're certain India is a long-term market for you.
Hire contractors — pay people as freelancers. Fast and simple to start, but carries misclassification risk under Indian labor law for anyone working full-time with you exclusively. We wrote about this risk separately if you want the full picture.
Use an Employer of Record — an EOR like XMS employs the person in Bangalore on your behalf, handles everything from the employment contract to monthly payroll, PF, ESI, and TDS, and you manage the person's day-to-day work. You can be onboarding within 5 working days of offer acceptance. This is the right model for most companies hiring 1 to 30 people in India.
What It's Like Working With a Bangalore-Based EOR
XMS has been based in Bangalore since 2015. When one of our client's employees has a PF query, it gets resolved the same day — because we're walking distance from the EPFO office and we know the process inside out. When TDS filings are due, we handle them before the deadline. When a new hire joins, they're onboarded in a week.
That's the difference between a local provider and a global platform. Local knowledge moves faster when it matters.
